People’s Food Co-op CEO Lizzy Haywood Resigns

Dear Valued PFC Owners,

It is with gratitude and heavy hearts that the People’s Food Co-op Board of Directors has accepted the resignation of CEO, Lizzy Haywood, effective February 9, 2024. Lizzy has served with People’s Food Co-op for nearly twelve years and eight of those as CEO.

Under Lizzy’s leadership, PFC underwent many significant changes and weathered multiple storms. We are grateful for her steadfast presence, and the energy, vision and heart she brought to PFC. In her time as CEO, Lizzy oversaw the addition of the Rochester liquor store, the La Crosse store renovation, guided the organization through the pandemic, and most recently brought Fayze’s to the co-op. The Board truly wishes her all the best in her next endeavors.

Following Lizzy’s departure, Matt Hartz will serve as Interim CEO while the Board seeks a permanent replacement. Matt has most recently been serving as interim Rochester store manager and has implemented many positive changes both in Rochester and throughout the organization. Prior to working at PFC, he was the General Manager at New Pioneer Co-op in Iowa City for 19 years. We are grateful for Matt’s willingness to serve as interim CEO.

PFC has a solid team of managers, and the Board has every confidence in a smooth transition.

We understand that you may have questions and comments for the Board. Please do not hesitate to reach out by emailing board@pfc.coop

And you are always welcome to join us at a board meeting, virtually or in person at either store. While usually held on the fourth Thursday of every month, our December meeting will take place one week early on Dec. 21 at 5:00 p.m.

In cooperation,
Elizabeth Leighton
People’s Food Co-op, Board President
