Kielbasa and Cabbage

Ingredients

3 tablespoons butter, divided

12 oz. kielbasa sausages, sliced into 2 “ rounds

1 small yellow onion, sliced

2 small cloves garlic, chopped

Salt and pepper

1 small head of cabbage, cored and thinly sliced

1 teaspoon sugar

beer or water to deglaze the pan if needed

 

Directions

In a Dutch oven melt 1 tablespoon butter over medium heat.  Add kielbasa slices and cook until browned and cooked through, remove from pan, and set aside.  Add remaining butter and onions cook 5 minutes or until onions become translucent, stir periodically scraping up bits from the bottom of the pan. If the pan becomes dry, add a splash of water or beer.  Add garlic and cook a few minutes more.

Toss cabbage and sugar in a bowl.

Add cabbage to Dutch oven and cook stirring occasionally, 8 to 10 minutes or until cabbage wilts and caramelizes.

Add sausage back in and heat through.

Serve with mustard if desired.
